The Righteous shall not be Put to Shame

Opening Verse

1 Peter 2:6 (ESV) 
⁶  For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” 

Who are the Righteous?

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) ²¹  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 

The Promise for the Righteous

The righteous shall not be put to shame

⁴  I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
⁵  Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces will never be ashamed. 

Reproach - kherpa refers primarily to "reproach" in the sense of "disgrace," or "shame," at all levels. (Expository Dictionary of Bible Words)

Joel 2:15-17 (KJV) 
¹⁵  Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
¹⁶  Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

A promise appropriated by faith in action

• We must exercise enough faith in God’s word enough to seek and follow His guidance.

Psalm 25:3-5 (KJV) 
³  Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 
⁴  Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
⁵  Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Psalm 31:1-2 (KJV)
 ¹  In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.
²  Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

³  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
⁴  Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

• We must exercise faith in God’s mercy enough to ask for a receive His forgiveness and His righteousness by faith. God will hide you from shame, despite your past mistakes and sins.

Psalm 25:6-7 (KJV) 
⁶  Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.
⁷  Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.

Psalm 25:11 (KJV) ¹¹  For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

Psalm 25:16-18 (KJV) 
¹⁶  Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
¹⁷  The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.
¹⁸  Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

• Pray and stand in faith that God will deliver you and give you grace to live victory over the sin that causes shame and reproach.

Psalm 25:20-22 (KJV) 
²⁰  O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
²¹  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
²²  Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Psalm 119:80 (HCSB) 
⁸⁰  May my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes so that I will not be put to shame.

• Cast off the shame and reproach of past sins by trusting God’s forgiveness and the blood of Jesus that makes you righteous.

Zephaniah 3:11-13 (HCSB) 
¹¹  On that day you will not be put to shame because of everything you have done in rebelling against Me. For then I will remove your proud, arrogant people from among you, and you will never again be haughty on My holy mountain.
¹²  I will leave a meek and humble people among you, and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh.
¹³  The remnant of Israel will no longer do wrong or tell lies; a deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. But they will pasture and lie down, with nothing to make ⌊them⌋ afraid.
