Get To Know Pastor Scott
Pastor Micah Jerome Scott, Sr., son of Bishop T. T. and Mrs. Cherry Scott, was born on April 22, 1965 in Clarksdale, , Mississippi. His father was a dedicated pastor of two churches, and a devoted preacher of righteousness. Pastor Scott learned from an early age as he observed the lifestyle of his father and mother, the dedication, service and sacrifice required to serve God and the people of the Lord.
Hearing the preaching of God’s word, Pastor Scott accepted the Lord at the age of 6. He loved to go to church: playing the drums and hand cymbals that his father bought for him, and later playing the trumpet. The call to preach was evident early in Pastor Scott’s life, preaching his first sermon in the den of his parent’s home. He took a text from the book of Jonah. When he was in the sixth grade, he would take his bible to school. On the way home, he would ask his friends to sit in the bleachers and hear him preach. His favorite text was John 17:17, by it he would prove to his friends that they had to be sanctified. Pastor Scott was glad to be called sanctified, and didn’t mind at all when his friends would mock him saying, “Do that sanctified dance.”
The Lord also began to deal with Pastor Scott in dreams and visions; he would see things before they happened. Often just settings and scenes he would later encounter. Pastor Scott has since understood them as God’s way of letting him know what to do or not to do when unforeseen events occurred.
By the age of 12, Pastor Scott knew that he was called to preach. It wasn’t until the age of 18 while in college at the University of Southern Mississippi that he began to walk in his calling.
As a pioneer in many aspects of the ministry, he has not been reluctant to take a stand for the Word of God. As a young minister, he stood firmly on the word of God and preached holiness on the campus of USM. He was called the “sidewalk preacher”, lifting up his voice like a trumpet in Zion, showing the people their sins and the house of Jacob their transgressions.
Pastor Scott has served faithfully as the Founder and Senior Pastor of Tabernacle of Prayer since May 10, 1989. He has been married to First Lady Jeanette since December 19, 1987. They have 3 children, Micah, Jr., Joanna and Moses. Pastor Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also serves as pastor at Latter Rain Church of God in Christ. He has served as Jurisdictional Treasurer for the Second Southern Jurisdiction of the Churches of God in Christ, Secretary for the Jurisdictional Board of Trustees, and now serves as the Jurisdictional Convention Coordinator under the leadership of Bishop Albert V. Jordan. He has served as a member and chairman of the Planning Commission and the Comprehensive Planning Committee for the City of Hattiesburg.
He has been the visionary and overseer for God’s purpose at Tabernacle of Prayer encouraging the discouraged and giving hope and direction to those who have lost their way. He has been called to prepare men and women to be laborers together for the kingdom of God.
