The Text

Proverbs 24:3-6 (ESV)

Introduction

Proverbs 24:6 (ESV)  for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Psalm 144:1 (KJV) Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Ecclesiastes 9:14-15 (ESV)
Ecc 9:14 (ESV)  There was a little city with few men in it, and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it.
Ecc 9:15 (ESV)  But there was found in it a poor, wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

The Lesson

1.      Divine insight is advantageous. – Divine insight includes divine wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and guidance.

& Wisdom – the skill or know-how of making decisions and taking actions that lead to better outcomes (temporal and or eternal). Example, the wise man builds his house on the rock and withstands the storm [a better outcome], but the foolish man builds his house on sand, it is destroyed by the storm [a bad outcome.]

& Understanding – the ability to assess facts and factors and determine how they interact and effect outcomes. 

& Knowledge – an awareness of facts, factors, and pertinent information [physical and spiritual].

& Wise Guidance – a course of action or decision obtained from another that leads to a better outcome.

Proverbs 24:3-6 (ESV)
Proverbs 24:3 (ESV)  By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
Proverbs 24:4 (ESV)  by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

 A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might,
Proverbs 24:6 (ESV)  for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

a.      Divine wisdom provides a structural advantage for your home. — “By wisdom, a house is built.”

Proverbs 24:3 (ESV)  By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;

Proverbs 28:2 (NIV)  When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV)  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:40 (KJV)  Let all things be done decently and in order.

b.     Divine understanding provides a sustainable advantage for your home. — “By understanding it is established.”

c.      Divine knowledge provides a substance advantage for your home. — “By knowledge, the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

Proverbs 8:21 (KJV)  That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

' Even the wicked can become wealthy when divine wisdom is practiced.

Ezekiel 28:2-5 (KJV)

d.      Divine wisdom and knowledge provide a strength advantage for your home. — “A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might.”

Ecclesiastes 7:19 (ESV)  Wisdom gives strength to the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.

e.      Divine guidance provides a security and success advantage for your home. — “By wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.”

Proverbs 24:6 (ESV)  for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Ecclesiastes 9:15 (KJV)  Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

2.      Divine insight is available.

Colossians 2:3 (ESV)  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

a.      Divine insight is available to the upright.

Proverbs 2:7 (ESV)  he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,

b.     Divine insight is available to the humble.

Psalm 25:9 (KJV)  The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

c.      Divine insight is available to the God-fearing.

Psalm 111:10 (ESV)  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

3.      Divine insight is accessible

a.      Accessed through prayer and fasting.

James 1:5 (KJV)   If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Proverbs 2:6 (HCSB)  For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Psalm 19:7 (KJV)  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Jeremiah 8:9 (NIV)  The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what kind of wisdom do they have?

c.      Accessed through hearing the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 11:2 (KJV)  And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

1 Corinthians 2:13 (KJV)  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Daniel 5:14 (ESV)  I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

Deuteronomy 34:9 (KJV)  And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
