Prayers for Increase

Passage to Ponder

  1. Why should New Testament believers pray for Old Testament promises? These promises now too belong to us in Christ.

Ephesians 2:12 (ESV)  remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
Ephesians 2:13 (ESV)  But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:17 (ESV)  And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.
Ephesians 2:18 (ESV)  For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Ephesians 2:19 (ESV)  So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

  1. God promised increase for His people.

Psalm 115:12 (ESV)  The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron;
Psalm 115:13 (ESV)  he will bless those who fear the LORD, both the small and the great.
Psalm 115:14 (ESV)  May the LORD give you increase, you and your children!

25  When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cummin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field?
26  His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.
27  Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is a cartwheel rolled over cummin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a stick.
28  Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it forever. Though he drives the wheels of his threshing cart over it, his horses do not grind it.
